13-Year-Old Rescued, Bodies Discovered As Police Nab Accomplices Of Enugu Native Doctor

Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspected accomplices of a fugitive native doctor, High Chief Levi Onyeka Obu, popularly known as “Ezeani,” who is accused of kidnapping and ritual killings. A 13-year-old girl, reportedly abducted for ritual purposes, was rescued during the operation.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on May 28 by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe.

According to the statement, police operatives attached to the Umumba Division, in collaboration with Neighbourhood Watch personnel and vigilant residents, launched a coordinated operation around 3:15 a.m. on May 27, 2025. The raid, carried out in Umuojor village, Ishiagu community, Ezeagu Local Government Area, led to the rescue of the young girl and arrest of the following suspects:

  • Uche Kingsley Agumba (33)

  • Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi (36)

  • Ejike Odinwankpa (38)

The primary suspect, Ezeani—described as a well-known native doctor and influential community figure—escaped the scene and remains at large.

During the rescue operation, security personnel discovered a pit sealed with concrete within an uncompleted building used as a shrine by the prime suspect. Inside the pit were the decomposing bodies of a male and a female victim, believed to have been recently murdered for ritual purposes.

Authorities believe the rescued girl was moments away from being killed when the team intervened.

In response, the Enugu State Government has demolished the buildings owned by Ezeani that were allegedly used for criminal activities.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, who visited the crime scene, praised the collaborative efforts of the police, local security forces, and community members. He also directed the Command’s Tactical Squads, as well as its Investigation and Intelligence Units, to intensify the manhunt for the fleeing suspect and any other accomplices still at large.

“The Command is fully committed to ensuring justice is served in this deeply disturbing case,” the statement read.
