Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening and enhancing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, recognizing it as a vital tool for national integration and youth empowerment.

Speaking through his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, on Friday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area, during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2025 Batch “A” Stream II corps members, Otti described the scheme as a cornerstone of nation-building.

“Your participation in the National Youth Service Corps scheme is a testament to your dedication to nation-building and national cohesion,” Otti stated. “As the leader of Abia State, I recognise the critical role the NYSC plays in our national integration and development efforts.”

He assured the corps members that the state government would continue to invest in infrastructure and institutional reforms that foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and social mobility, as outlined in the “New Abia Project Blueprint.”

“We will vigorously pursue the rebuilding, maintenance, upgrade and expansion of our critical infrastructure, including the ongoing rehabilitation of your orientation camp, anchored on the rule of law, good governance, and the pursuit of equity and justice,” he added.

Otti emphasized that his administration views the corps members as critical partners in Abia’s transformation, pledging full support throughout their service year to ensure a productive and fulfilling experience.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board and Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba, lauded the Otti administration’s consistent support for the NYSC scheme in the state, assuring corps members of continued assistance despite limited resources.

The State Coordinator of NYSC, Gladys Adama, commended the new corps members for their positive attitude and willingness to adapt to camp life, expressing confidence in their ability to contribute meaningfully to the development of Abia State during their service year.
