More than 1.5 million of the 1,955,069 candidates who took the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) scored below 200, according to statistics released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Monday.

Only 420,415 candidates scored above 200, making up about 25% of the total, while less than 1% scored over 300.

JAMB also revealed that 40,247 underage candidates were allowed to participate to showcase exceptional ability, but only 467 met the defined performance threshold.

Additionally, 97 candidates were caught cheating, while 2,157 are under investigation for suspected exam malpractice. Another 71,701 were absent, and candidates with biometric issues are still being reviewed and may be rescheduled.

Some results, including those of blind and JEOG candidates, are still being processed. JAMB will hold a press conference later this week to officially announce results and provide result-checking instructions.
