Residents and motorists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been advised to prepare for temporary traffic disruptions on Friday as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visits Abuja to inaugurate a major infrastructure project. The Apo-Wasa Road will be closed to vehicular movement from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to facilitate security arrangements and the smooth conduct of the event.
In a statement issued Thursday by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, traders, mechanics, and shop owners at the Apo Mechanic Village have voluntarily agreed to suspend operations for the day to support the event.
Olayinka explained that the closure is part of preparations to “give President Tinubu a rousing welcome and allow full participation in the commissioning ceremony.”
The president is scheduled to inaugurate the newly completed Left-Hand Service Carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway Stage II, which extends from the Ring Road I Junction to Wasa Junction. The commissioning ceremony is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
“The Apo-Wasa Road, which is to be commissioned by President Bola Tinubu tomorrow, will be closed to vehicular movement between 11am and 4pm,” Olayinka confirmed.
To minimize inconvenience, traffic enforcement personnel will be stationed at critical points to assist motorists and redirect traffic to alternate routes. The statement urged affected road users to cooperate and use alternative routes during the temporary closure.
“We appeal to road users that will be affected by this temporary closure to bear with the government while using alternative routes,” the statement added.
