Super Eagles star and Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman has officially submitted a transfer request, publicly expressing his frustration over the club’s refusal to sanction a move to Inter Milan.
In a heartfelt message shared on his social media accounts on Sunday, the 27-year-old revealed that despite months of internal discussions and a mutual understanding that this summer would be the right time for a transfer, Atalanta has rejected a bid from Inter Milan that he believes meets the agreed terms.
“Enough is enough,” Lookman wrote, confirming he has formally asked to leave. “Both myself and the club had agreed that this summer would be the right time to move on. I was assured that if a fair offer came in, I would be allowed to leave.”
He stated that Inter Milan’s latest offer — reportedly €42 million plus €3 million in bonuses — aligned with what had previously been discussed with Atalanta’s management. However, the club turned it down, holding firm on a €50 million valuation.
“I hope to work with the club to find an amicable solution for all parties,” Lookman added.
Reflecting on his time in Bergamo, the Europa League winner expressed deep appreciation for the club and its fans:
“Over the past three years at Atalanta, I’ve given absolutely everything — not just as a footballer but as a person. I’ve worn the shirt with pride and represented this club and city with passion and dedication.
“Winning the Europa League and celebrating in Dublin with my teammates and fans was one of the proudest moments of my career. I’ll never forget it.”
Despite the fond memories, Lookman said it is now time to move on.
“This place has felt like home from the moment I arrived, and I’ve always tried to repay that love — even during difficult times behind the scenes,” he said. “That’s what makes this so hard. After three amazing years, I believe it’s time for a new challenge.”
He claimed that previous transfer interest from other clubs was turned down out of loyalty to Atalanta, but that a change of direction had been mutually agreed upon this summer — a promise he now says the club has gone back on.
“After months of broken promises and what I feel has been poor treatment, I feel I have no choice but to speak out. I’ve always put the club, the fans, and my teammates first, even in the most difficult moments, many of which I’ve kept private. But I can no longer stay silent.”
“To the fans — the heartbeat of this club — I’m truly sorry it’s come to this. I hope you can understand this incredibly difficult situation. This is about standing up for what I believe is fair. The bond we’ve built means everything to me.”
Negotiations between Atalanta and Inter Milan are ongoing, with the Nigerian international eager to join Cristian Chivu’s side. According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Lookman’s official transfer request was submitted over the weekend, intensifying pressure on Atalanta to reconsider their stance.
As of now, the Bergamo club is standing firm on its €50 million asking price for the reigning African Player of the Year.
