A fire has broken out at the old terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, which is currently undergoing a multi-billion-naira renovation.

The cause of the incident was not immediately clear at the time of this report. The affected terminal forms part of the airport’s older infrastructure and is being upgraded as part of broader efforts to modernise facilities and enhance passenger experience.

Confirming the development to PUNCH Online, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Henry Agbebire, said officials were already at the scene managing the situation.

“We are aware of the outbreak, and we are there right now. We will publish a statement shortly,” he said.

He added that the agency’s emergency response team had been deployed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further.

“Our firefighting team is currently responding and working to curtail the situation,” Agbebire stated.

He assured the public that no casualties had been recorded.

“There is no loss of life. Further updates will follow,” he said.

Passengers and airport users have been urged to remain calm as authorities work to extinguish the fire completely and assess the extent of the damage.
