Governor Adeleke Defects To Accord Party

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally joined the Accord Party, days after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The announcement was made on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, where national and state leaders of Accord were present.

According to a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke also declared his intention to seek re-election in 2026 on the Accord Party’s platform, popularly known as the “Thumb-Up” party. He revealed that he had actually joined the party over a month ago.

“I joined the Accord Party on November 6 as a platform to seek re-election in 2026, after weeks of consultations with stakeholders and opinion leaders,” Adeleke said. “Osun people know the reasons for this decision. We intend to pursue a second term on the Accord platform to complete the delivery of good governance and democratic dividends that have been widely acknowledged.”

Adeleke explained that he chose the party because its philosophy of welfarism aligns with his administration’s commitment to citizens’ and workers’ welfare.

Welcoming party leaders to the Government House, he said, “We are united in our intentions for the people of Osun State. Our task now is to maintain a united front as we prepare for the elections. Accord is ready to take Osun forward and sustain the progress we have made.”

He also praised the party’s people-focused ideology, adding that his administration has prioritized the welfare of residents through policies and programmes that have improved infrastructure and social services across the state.

“Today, we unveil the new platform for the good people of Osun State,” he said. “From Osun West to East to Central, this is our party for victory in August next year. The people voted for good governance in 2022, and they will support continuity in 2026.”

Adeleke’s move comes after he officially resigned from the PDP on December 1, citing a prolonged leadership crisis at the party’s national level. He confirmed that he submitted his resignation to his ward leadership on November 4, 2025.

He thanked the PDP for the opportunities it had given him, both as a Senator and as Governor of Osun State.
