Dele Momodu: Only A Strong Coalition Can End Tinubu’s Reign In 2027

Two-time presidential hopeful and prominent People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has stated that only a united coalition of political parties stands a chance of unseating President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.

Speaking during the “Guest of the Month” program hosted by the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) in Ibadan, Momodu made it clear that internal strife and disunity within the PDP remain major obstacles to its effectiveness as an opposition party.

“My soul has already left the PDP; only my body remains,” he said, expressing frustration with the party’s internal challenges. “The PDP has the capacity to reclaim power if it is united. But internal forces, some of which are being manipulated, are working against that possibility.”

He accused the APC of deliberately fostering divisions within the PDP, noting that the ruling party sees the PDP as its main threat in the next election cycle.

“The APC is clearly worried about the PDP. That’s why its leadership is doing everything to destabilize us. A divided PDP cannot defeat the APC in 2027,” he said. “Their strategy is to fragment the main opposition and weaken its chances.”

Momodu emphasized that the PDP remains a law-abiding party and adheres to due process in handling disciplinary matters. “The rule of law guides the party’s decisions on suspensions or expulsions. That’s our strength,” he added.

He concluded that defeating President Tinubu in 2027 would be extremely difficult without a strong, united opposition front. “There must be a powerful and strategic coalition,” he stressed. “And whoever wants to challenge the incumbent must come from a different region of the country to gain a broader national appeal.”
