A Nigerian medical doctor, DS Omeiza, has urged patients to remove charms or spiritual items attached to their bodies before undergoing surgery.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, July 6, Dr. Omeiza emphasized that such items offer no medical benefit and could interfere with surgical procedures.
“When coming into the theatre for surgery, please remove all these encumbrances,” he wrote. “If a charm couldn’t cure your condition or prevent the need for surgery, then it certainly won’t help during the operation.”
He noted that this practice is still common, particularly in rural communities, and stressed the importance of trusting in proper medical care over superstitious beliefs.
