Elina Svitolina Triumphs Over Xinyu Wang in 2026 ASB Classic Final

Elina Svitolina delivered a championship-worthy performance to defeat Xinyu Wang and claim the women’s singles title at the 2026 ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand. The final, played on Sunday January 11, lived up to expectations, producing a high-quality contest filled with long rallies and intense exchanges that captivated the crowd.

Svitolina, the tournament’s top seed, took control early by breaking Wang’s serve and dictating play from the baseline. She went on to secure the opening set 6–3 with her trademark consistency and composure. The second set proved far more dramatic, with both players trading powerful shots and refusing to give an inch. Wang pushed the former world number three all the way to a tie-break, where Svitolina held her nerve to edge it 8–6 and close out the match.

The Ukrainian star wrapped up the final in straight sets, winning 6–3, 7–6, to lift her 19th career WTA singles title. Wang, who enjoyed an impressive run to the final, showcased her growing confidence and shot-making throughout the tournament but ultimately could not stop Svitolina’s experience and precision when it mattered most.

The Auckland victory marks a strong start to Svitolina’s 2026 season and gives her valuable momentum as she heads into the Australian Open, while the thrilling final confirmed both players as ones to watch in the new tennis year.
