The Federal Government has confirmed that all group-stage bonuses owed to Super Eagles players at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations have been released and should reflect in the players’ domiciliary accounts within hours.
The Minister of State for Finance, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, made this known on Thursday while addressing reports that the national team was considering boycotting training sessions and might refuse to travel to Marrakesh for their quarter-final match against Algeria.
In a statement shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Uzoka-Anite said the issue of unpaid bonuses had been resolved through coordinated efforts between the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
According to her, both institutions worked together to streamline payment processes to ensure quicker and more predictable disbursements in line with international best practices.
She explained that all bonuses earned during the group stage of the tournament had been fully processed and cleared through the necessary regulatory channels.
Uzoka-Anite also revealed that a fast-track process was introduced to accommodate the players’ preference for payment in foreign currency, noting that funds were converted accordingly.
“The final transfers to the players’ domiciliary accounts are currently in progress. The funds are expected to reflect from today (Thursday) or by tomorrow (Friday),” she said.
The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to the welfare and morale of the Super Eagles as they progress into the knockout phase of the competition, stressing that off-field issues should not distract the team.
“Our focus remains on supporting the team so they can sustain their momentum. We move forward with one goal: bringing the trophy home,” she added.
The development is expected to ease tensions surrounding the team’s preparations ahead of their quarter-final fixture as the Super Eagles continue their AFCON 2025 campaign.
