Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, visited President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday. Photos released by the State House showed Fubara engaged in a closed-door meeting with the President at his private residence.
As of the time of this report, the details of their discussion have not been made public.
Fubara’s suspension, which was announced by President Tinubu on March 18, came amid escalating political tensions in Rivers State. This marks the second time both leaders have met in private since the suspension.
Alongside Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly were suspended for six months. In a nationwide address, President Tinubu also declared a state of emergency in the state, citing the need to restore order following a breakdown in relations between the governor and the legislature.
To ensure continuity of governance, Tinubu appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas as the state’s interim administrator.
