Governor Radda Suspends Katsina Reformatory Staff Over Inmate Torture

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has ordered the immediate suspension of top officials at the Katsina State Reformatory Centre, Babbar Ruga, following a disturbing investigation into the torture of an inmate, Usman Musa.

The Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, confirmed the suspension of the Centre’s Principal, Abdulzahir Abubakar; Vice Principal, Bala Abubakar; and a porter, Yunusa Yusuf. Their suspension stems from their roles in an incident that led to the amputation of the inmate’s left hand and severe injuries to his right.

A statement by Abdullahi Yar’adua, Chief Press Secretary to the SSG, stated that the move underscores the state government’s commitment to human rights, accountability, and institutional reform.

Additionally, Governor Radda approved the dismissal of Murtala Suleiman, a casual staff member directly implicated in the abuse.

To aid the victim’s recovery, the governor has approved ₦970,000 for medical treatment and ₦35 million for a sensor-enabled prosthetic hand to support his rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
