The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) mop-up exam will take place on Saturday, 28th June 2025.
In a statement released on Sunday by its Public Communications Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board confirmed that 96,838 candidates are expected to participate in the exercise. These include:
-
5,096 spill-over candidates (mainly those affected by biometric verification issues),
-
And 91,742 candidates who were absent during the main or rescheduled UTME.
Candidates are advised to print their notification slips starting Monday, 23rd June 2025 to prepare for the exam, which will be held in 183 centres across Nigeria. A few others are on standby in case of further need.
As part of efforts to safeguard exam integrity, JAMB has delisted 113 CBT centres for various infractions, including technical failures and involvement in malpractice. These centres are currently under investigation, and those found guilty will face prosecution.
The statement also revealed ongoing probes into malpractice syndicates, involving some school owners, tutorial centres, and even JAMB officials. Several exam towns have been deactivated due to these issues, with affected candidates to be reassigned to nearby centres. JAMB appealed for their patience and understanding.
To address identity fraud, particularly impersonation by university students, JAMB warned that culprits will be reported to their institutions, potentially leading to expulsion for violating the matriculation oath, in addition to legal action under the Examination Malpractice Act of 1999.
The Board emphasized that the first session begins at 8:00 a.m., and candidates should arrive at least one hour early. JAMB also assured the public that the mop-up exam will be conducted with strict supervision, including the deployment of special invigilation teams and security personnel to ensure a fair and credible process.
