Country star Jelly Roll sparked a social media firestorm with a deeply religious acceptance speech at the 2026 Grammy Awards, drawing both praise and criticism for bringing faith to the forefront on music’s biggest stage.
The 41-year-old singer took home Best Contemporary Country Album for Beautifully Broken, beating out Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, Tyler Childers, and Kelsea Ballerini. But it was his speech—not the win—that stole the spotlight.
Jelly Roll openly spoke about Jesus and Christianity, sharing how both music and faith transformed his life. At one point, he even held up a Bible while addressing the crowd.
“Jesus is for everybody,” he said, emphasizing that faith transcends politics and the entertainment industry.
The moment divided audiences. Many viewers found it moving and heartfelt, while critics on social media accused him of “pushing religion too far,” with some linking his dramatic recent weight loss to his behavior.
Despite the backlash, Jelly Roll remained unapologetic. He also praised his wife, Bunnie Xo, crediting her for helping him turn his life around during a difficult period before fame. He has long been open about his troubled past and the role of faith and family in his transformation.
Adding to his achievements, Jelly Roll also won Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for Amen, a collaboration with Shaboozey, capping a historic night for the singer.
