Kano Government Announces Extended Eid-El-Kabir Break For Schools

Kano govt declares lengthy Eid-el-Kabir holiday for schools

The Kano State Government has approved a mid-term break for schoolchildren in celebration of Eid-el-Kabir, granting students a week-and-a-half holiday.

According to an official statement signed by Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Education, the holiday will commence on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, for all primary and post-primary schools across the state.

Boarding students are expected to resume on Sunday, June 15, 2025, while day students are to return on Monday, June 16, 2025.
Parents and guardians of boarding students have been advised to pick up their children in the early hours of Wednesday, June 4.

The statement clarified that other aspects of the 2024/2025 academic calendar, including recognized public holidays, remain unchanged.

Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, expressed appreciation to parents and guardians for their continued support and urged them to ensure timely return of their children after the Sallah break.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank the good people of the state for their usual support to the Ministry and to wish all our students a joyous and peaceful Eid-el-Kabir,” Dr. Makoda said.

This announcement comes just months after some northern states — Katsina, Kebbi, and Bauchi — stirred controversy in March 2025 by directing all schools, both public and private, to go on holiday for the entire month of Ramadan, despite the rest of the country remaining in academic session.
