Lagos Mandates Parking, Traffic Approvals For Hotels And Event Centres

The Lagos State Government has directed all operators in the hospitality sector—including hotels, event centres, and nightclubs—to obtain approvals from both the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The directive was announced in a joint statement signed by LASPA General Manager Adebisi Adelabu and LASTMA General Manager Bakare-Oki Olalekan, following a meeting held on Thursday, August 7, at LASPA’s office.

According to the statement, the move aims to tackle the ongoing problems of illegal parking and traffic congestion often caused by hospitality establishments across the state.

Business owners are required to register with both LASPA and LASTMA and secure necessary permits to operate legally. Non-compliance, the statement warned, will lead to prosecution under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

The two agencies, both under the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, reaffirmed their joint commitment to easing traffic flow and ensuring safer roads. While LASPA manages parking regulation, LASTMA handles traffic control and enforcement. The statement noted that despite their different roles, their collaboration is essential to the government’s broader traffic management strategy.
