Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been named the 2025 Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year, receiving the prestigious award on Thursday night.
Salah secured the men’s honour with a staggering 90% of the vote from the FWA’s 918 members—marking the largest winning margin of the 21st century.
The Egyptian forward has been instrumental in Liverpool’s successful 2024–25 season, contributing 33 goals and 23 assists across 51 appearances in all competitions. His standout performances helped lead the Reds to a Premier League title.
Virgil van Dijk, Salah’s Liverpool teammate, finished second in the voting, followed by Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Arsenal’s Declan Rice.
“It means a lot to win this award—it’s incredible,” Salah said at the ceremony.
“I always feel honoured receiving this from the writers. And to win it by such a margin—it’s just unbelievable.
Winning the Premier League this season, especially with the impact I had, was such a joyful moment. I’ve never felt that kind of happiness at the club before, especially when we clinched it against Spurs.”
Salah’s latest accolade adds to his legacy as one of the greatest players in Premier League history.
