The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has donated a 300kV transformer and other electrification equipment to the Nigerian Army’s 16 Brigade in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
During the handover ceremony on Monday, NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku — represented by the Executive Director of Projects, Dr. Victor Antai — said the donation followed a request from the brigade to help strengthen security infrastructure in the region.
The gesture, he noted, is part of the NDDC’s broader effort to support oil-producing communities across the Niger Delta.
“As an interventionist agency, the NDDC responded to the 16 Brigade’s request to help improve infrastructure that supports regional security,” Ogbuku said in a statement released Tuesday by NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama.
Beyond the transformer, the NDDC also installed and strung 156 high-tension and 90 low-tension prestressed concrete poles, along with 500-watt streetlights to boost visibility and security in the area.
Ogbuku emphasized that the project would enhance the army’s operational efficiency and its fight against insecurity in the region.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oloyede, praised the NDDC for its continued support. “As you can see, most of the projects being commissioned were executed by the NDDC. I want to commend them for their ongoing contributions to both the Nigerian Army and the Niger Delta,” he said.
