The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90.
According to information gathered by The PUNCH Online, the revered monarch died in the early hours of Monday, during the ongoing celebrations marking his 90th birthday and first anniversary of his coronation.
Oba Olakulehin ascended the throne following the passing of his predecessor, Oba Lekan Balogun.
A source within the Olubadan-in-Council confirmed the development, stating: “We received the message that the paramount ruler passed away this morning. He has joined his forefathers. However, an official announcement from the state government is still awaited.”
Another palace source also confirmed the monarch’s passing and noted that Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan and next in line to ascend the throne, is currently abroad but is expected to return soon.
“He must have already been informed,” the source added.
