Cameroon international goalkeeper Andre Onana is reportedly determined to fight for his place and re-establish himself as Manchester United’s first-choice shot-stopper next season.
The 29-year-old is currently on loan at Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig and is expected to return to United for pre-season training. According to reports, Onana believes he will be given an opportunity to reclaim the No.1 jersey, despite the arrival of Senne Lammens last summer under former manager Ruben Amorim.
The 23-year-old Belgian has impressed since joining the Red Devils from Royal Antwerp for £18 million, quickly establishing himself as first choice with a string of assured performances. He underlined his quality again on Monday, keeping a clean sheet in United’s hard-fought 1-0 win at Everton, producing several crucial saves.
Onana, however, faces an uphill battle. His spell at Trabzonspor has not gone to plan, and the Turkish club are not expected to make his loan move permanent. As a result, he could be set for another loan switch or even a permanent departure.
The Cameroonian joined Manchester United from Inter Milan in July 2023 on a five-year deal worth an initial £44.1 million, but his first two seasons at Old Trafford proved deeply disappointing.
