The Oyo State Government has approved N4.5 billion in financial support for the victims and survivors of the Bodija explosion that occurred on January 16. This decision was made during a State Executive Council meeting at the Governor’s Office on Wednesday, May 14.
Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information, announced that this new fund is in addition to the over N200 million already spent by the state on accommodation, feeding, hospital care, and security services for the victims.
Oyelade also revealed that the council has approved the recommendation of a 10-man committee to revoke the titles of two properties located near the explosion site on Adeyi Avenue. The state plans to construct a monument on the revoked land in honor of the victims. This decision was made in the public interest and aims to bring closure to the affected communities.
