Tragedy has struck the Argentine football community following the sudden death of Enzo Pittau, a 35-year-old player who collapsed during a match and later died of cardiac arrest.
The incident occurred during a Chaco federation tournament match in Machagai, where Pittau was playing for Don Orione against Club Unión. According to reports, he collapsed 41 minutes into the game, prompting panic and distress among players, staff, and spectators.
Witnesses described the scene as one of “tears and chaos.” “I was watching the match when Pittau suddenly fell. It looked like he fainted,” one spectator told Diario Chaco via Contexto Tucumán. “People were screaming, crying, and running for help. It was heartbreaking and confusing from the stands.”
Another witness said, “I can’t get the image out of my head—he just fell alone. We’re not used to this in football. Everyone was in shock, and the match was eventually suspended.”
Pittau was rushed to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, according to Hechos y Derecho.
His club, Don Orione, issued a statement expressing their sorrow:
“With deep pain, we announce the passing of Enzo Pittau. We are shocked and deeply affected by this loss. We appreciate everyone’s support and understanding during this difficult time for both our club and Enzo’s family.”
Pittau had reportedly only recently returned to Argentina after playing abroad in Europe. Just hours before the match, he had posted a heartfelt message on social media:
“Faith and God in between. Today we play with soul and life.”
His sudden passing has left the football community in mourning, with tributes pouring in from fans, teammates, and officials who remember him as a passionate and dedicated player.
