Police Nab Two For Alleged Murder, Arson Of Young Woman In Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two key suspects in connection with the gruesome murder and burning of a young woman in the ‘Gangare’ area, near the canal behind Mile 12 Market in Lagos. The incident occurred on Saturday.

In a statement released on Monday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests and provided additional details on the case.

According to Hundeyin, preliminary investigations indicate that the victim, a native of Nasarawa State, was attacked and set ablaze in a premeditated act orchestrated by her estranged boyfriend and his accomplices. He also clarified that contrary to circulating rumors, the incident had no link to blasphemy.

The deceased had reportedly been living in the area with relatives from northern Nigeria. Her occupation has not yet been determined.

“The victim was from Nasarawa State and not of Yoruba origin,” Hundeyin said. “A longstanding dispute between her and her estranged boyfriend—who is currently on the run—led to this tragic incident. The suspect had tried to forcefully rekindle the relationship, and, in conspiracy with others, planned and carried out the attack. Two of those suspects are now in custody.”

He added that the investigation is ongoing and efforts are underway to apprehend the boyfriend and other suspects still at large. The two individuals currently in custody are being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department and are assisting with further investigations.

Hundeyin assured the public that normalcy has been restored in the affected community and surrounding areas of Mile 12.

“Residents are advised to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear. The police are committed to a thorough investigation and will keep the public informed of any developments,” he said.

He also urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could incite fear or unrest.

The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and security of all residents and promised to provide timely updates as the investigation continues.
