Police Seal Pdp National Secretariat

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday, November 19, sealed the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

The development came after a violent clash between two rival factions on Tuesday, November 18, during which teargas was fired as supporters confronted one another.

The crisis escalated when the faction led by Saminu Turaki clashed with members loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at the secretariat. Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State were reportedly caught in the teargas.

Shortly afterward, the Wike-aligned factional National Executive Committee (NEC) ratified the expulsion of Governors Makinde, Mohammed, and Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, along with former PDP Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, former National Vice Chairman Bode George, and newly elected National Chairman Kabiru Turaki, SAN.

This action followed last Saturday’s PDP national convention in Ibadan, where Wike and ten others—including former governors, current lawmakers, and key party leaders—were suspended over alleged anti-party activities. The Ibadan convention, convened by the opposing faction, accused Wike’s camp of attempting to destabilise the party ahead of a planned nationwide restructuring.

On Tuesday, the factions arrived at Wadata Plaza to hold parallel NEC and Board of Trustees meetings, triggering a chaotic confrontation. Security personnel struggled to separate supporters from both sides as arguments, shoving, and disorder erupted.
