Senate Screens Fani-Kayode, Dambazau For Ambassador Roles

The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs on Thursday screened two former ministers, Femi Fani-Kayode and Abdulrahman Dambazau, for ambassadorial appointments.

Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, and Dambazau, a former Minister of Interior, had already undergone full Senate screening during their previous ministerial confirmations.

Following brief introductions, the nominees, along with former ministers, ambassadors, and lawmakers, were asked to “take a bow and leave,” a Senate tradition reserved for individuals with extensive public service and prior clearance by the National Assembly.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele defended the procedure, noting it applies to those with established, verifiable records of public service. He added that their legislative history and public profiles are already well known to lawmakers.

Their confirmation now awaits ratification by the full Senate.

The screening follows President Bola Tinubu’s submission of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation on November 29.
