Super Falcons Arrive in Morocco for Final WAFCON Preparations

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have landed in Casablanca, Morocco, for the final phase of their build-up ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

A delegation of 22 players and team officials made the trip from Lisbon, Portugal, where the team had been camping. Striker Asisat Oshoala of Bay FC and China-based forward Folashade Ijamilusi joined the squad in Casablanca on Tuesday to bolster the team’s attacking options.

Justine Madugu’s side played to a goalless draw against Portugal in a friendly match on Monday night as part of their preparatory schedule. The nine-time African champions will next face familiar rivals, the Black Queens of Ghana, in another high-profile warm-up game on Sunday.

The Super Falcons will open their WAFCON 2024 campaign on Sunday, July 6, against Tunisia at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca. They will go on to face Botswana and Algeria in their remaining group-stage fixtures.

Nigeria boasts a dominant record in the competition, having won the title nine times—in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2018. The team has also reached at least the semi-final stage in every edition of the tournament, including in 2008, 2012, and 2022.
