Tottenham have reportedly reached an agreement with Premier League rivals Brentford to appoint Thomas Frank as their new head coach, following the recent sacking of Ange Postecoglou.
Spurs targeted Frank after dismissing Postecoglou last week, just 16 days after winning the Europa League, and officially approached Brentford earlier this week.
According to the Press Association, initial talks focused on Frank’s current contract terms with Brentford and discussions continued over which members of his backroom staff would join him.
Frank’s contract at Brentford runs until 2027, with a reported release clause of around £10 million ($13.6 million).
The deal was confirmed on Thursday, with The Athletic reporting that Spurs are close to finalizing the appointment of the 51-year-old Danish coach.
Frank led Brentford back to the Premier League in 2021 after a 74-year absence and has since helped establish the club in the top flight.
Tottenham secured a spot in next season’s Champions League thanks to their Europa League victory in Bilbao, where they defeated Manchester United 1-0. However, Postecoglou was dismissed after a disappointing Premier League campaign, in which Spurs finished 17th, losing 22 of their 38 games.
Frank began his coaching career with the Danish national youth teams before managing Brøndby for three years. He initially joined Brentford as an assistant before taking over as head coach when Dean Smith left for Aston Villa.
After narrowly missing out in the 2020 Championship play-off final, Frank guided Brentford to promotion the following year through the play-offs.
Since then, the Bees have consistently punched above their weight, finishing 13th, 9th, 16th, and 10th in the Premier League despite regularly selling key players.
