Troost-Ekong Vows To Step Aside When The Time Is Right

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has dismissed any plans to retire from the Nigerian national team in the near future but emphasized he won’t stay longer than necessary.

In a recent interview with Punch, when asked if he had ever considered retiring from the national team, Troost-Ekong reaffirmed his dedication. The defender, a key figure in the Super Eagles’ backline for years, said he still feels physically and mentally fit to perform at the highest level.

However, the 31-year-old also stressed the importance of knowing when to step aside.

“No, not yet. I’m 31 now, and I still feel strong both physically and mentally. When the time comes for me to step aside, I’ll know. I’ll be the first to say, ‘I’m done.’ I’ll never overstay my welcome. But right now, that’s not on my mind. I still feel like I have a lot to offer the team.”
