Unilever Nigeria has reinforced its commitment to community development and improved livelihoods through a school renovation project executed in partnership with GEP at Local Government Primary School, Elero Igbesa, Ogun State.
At a handover ceremony held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, the company unveiled newly renovated classroom blocks, upgraded sanitation facilities fitted with modern toilets, and sustainable energy solutions powered by solar panels. The classrooms were also refurnished and properly ventilated to create brighter, more comfortable learning spaces for pupils.
The initiative underscores Unilever Nigeria’s focus on supporting the next generation by investing in practical, sustainable solutions that directly impact young learners. By improving classroom safety, sanitation and access to renewable energy, the company aims to provide an environment that enhances learning outcomes and nurtures future potential.
Speaking at the event, Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, welcomed the intervention, noting that it aligns with the state government’s school infrastructure renewal agenda. He urged other corporate organisations to emulate the initiative.
Unilever Nigeria’s Managing Director, Tobi Adeniyi, said the project supports Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education, as well as the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda.
“Every child deserves access to quality education. Beyond the classroom walls, we must ensure they have an environment that allows them to focus, learn and aspire. This project reflects our sustainability agenda to improve lives and empower future generations,” he said.
Adeniyi explained that the upgraded sanitation facilities, newly constructed toilets, solar-powered energy systems and improved ventilation were designed to create a safer, healthier and more conducive learning atmosphere, ultimately boosting attendance, concentration and academic performance.
In his remarks, the Oloja-Ekun of Igbesaland in Ado-Odo Local Government, His Royal Majesty Oba Abdul-Azeez Akinde, commended the company for its intervention, describing it as a meaningful contribution to community development and educational advancement.
“Your support has not only transformed the school’s infrastructure but also strengthened hope and pride within our community. By providing a safer and more conducive learning environment, you have empowered our children and reassured parents,” the monarch said.
Also speaking, Unilever Nigeria’s Head of Communications, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Zainab Obagun, alongside GEP’s Procurement Manager, Tamara Vanndenbor, noted that the project was driven by a simple goal — to create a safer, cleaner and more inspiring environment for pupils. They emphasised that well-equipped and welcoming classrooms enhance motivation, focus and overall development.
The school’s Headmistress, Mrs. Yemisi Olugbile, expressed appreciation for the intervention, saying the improved facilities would positively impact pupils’ performance and boost parents’ confidence.
Through partnerships such as this, Unilever Nigeria says it remains dedicated to delivering sustainable interventions that strengthen communities across the country.
