The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested approximately 2,200 migrants on Tuesday, marking the largest single-day immigration sweep in American history, according to a report by NBC News.
The mass arrests come as the Trump administration steps up its enforcement of immigration laws under growing pressure from the White House to crack down on undocumented immigrants.
Following the operation, hundreds of those detained were enrolled in ICE’s Alternatives to Detention (ATD) program. This initiative monitors individuals not considered threats to public safety using methods such as ankle bracelets, smartphone apps, and other location-tracking technologies.
While the nationalities of those arrested have not been fully disclosed, there have been no confirmed reports so far of Nigerians being among those detained.
Punch Diaspora Tales reached out to an immigration attorney and several Nigerian nationals in the U.S. for comment, but no responses had been received as of the time this report was filed.
