Wike Clarifies: ‘Fubara Is My Boy, The Battle Isn’t With Him

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims of a personal conflict with the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara. In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Wike referred to Fubara as his “son,” downplaying rumors of a political feud between the two former allies.

“That’s not a battle,” Wike stated. “He’s my boy, he’s my son. Why would I fight him?”

Wike clarified that his political opposition is not directed at Governor Fubara himself, but rather at individuals he claims are manipulating the governor for their own gain. “I’m only fighting against people who want to take what they didn’t work for,” he said. “If you don’t defeat them, they’ll think they’re in charge. Defeat them completely. Now, they’re ashamed because they’re being defeated. These are the people pushing Fubara.”

Speaking at a media briefing with selected journalists in Abuja on Monday, Wike also revealed that Governor Fubara had initiated peace efforts, in response to repeated appeals by President Bola Tinubu.

“The President has called for peace multiple times, and I cannot ignore that,” Wike said. “Fubara came with two governors and an elder statesman. Though both governors are from the APC, I won’t pursue him. He said he wants peace, and that’s fine. I also want peace.”

Wike’s remarks come amid ongoing political tension in Rivers State, where a power struggle continues to unfold among key stakeholders following Governor Fubara’s suspension.
