2025 Floods: Nema Confirms 165 Dead, Over 119,000 Affected Across 19 States

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has reported that at least 165 people have died and 82 are missing due to flooding so far this year, with over 119,000 individuals affected nationwide.

According to data released by NEMA on Friday, 138 people sustained injuries, 43,936 were displaced, 8,594 houses damaged, and 8,278 farmlands destroyed across 43 Local Government Areas in 19 states.

The agency highlighted that women and children make up the majority of those affected, stating that 53,314 children, 36,573 women, 24,600 men, 5,304 elderly persons, and 1,863 people with disabilities have been impacted by the floods.

The worst-hit states include Imo, Rivers, Abia, Borno, and Kaduna.

The full list of affected states includes: Abia, FCT, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Borno, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ondo, Rivers, and Sokoto.
