Adamu Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has stepped down as Adamawa State Commissioner for Works and Energy Development amid recent political realignments within the state government.
In a resignation letter dated March 2, 2026, and addressed to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Adamu said his decision came after thorough personal reflection and careful evaluation of his political and professional future.
He formally confirmed his departure from the State Executive Council, describing his time in office as a privilege. He expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve and contribute to Adamawa’s infrastructure growth during his tenure.
Adamu also thanked the people of Adamawa State for their support and trust, noting that their confidence enabled him to discharge his responsibilities effectively. He wished the administration continued success in steering the state forward.
His resignation follows a wave of defections in the state, as 22 commissioners joined Governor Fintiri in moving from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on February 27, 2026. Adamu, however, did not join the defection and was absent when the political switch was publicly announced.
