Adeleke’s 2026 Re-Election Not Threatened By Defections – Osun PDP Chair

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Sunday Bisi, has dismissed concerns that recent defections from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) will affect Governor Ademola Adeleke’s chances of winning re-election in 2026.

Bisi described the wave of defections as merely “a storm in a teacup,” insisting that Adeleke continues to enjoy widespread support across various sectors in the state.

His comments follow growing concerns that the movement of key PDP figures to the APC could weaken the party ahead of the next gubernatorial election. Among those who have left the party in recent weeks is Hon. Wole Oke, a serving member of the House of Representatives representing Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency.

Also defecting is former senator Felix Ogunwale, who represented Osun Central between 2003 and 2007, alongside several of Oke’s supporters. Meanwhile, three PDP senators from Osun have publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, further fueling speculation of internal party cracks.

Despite these developments, Bisi remains confident in the PDP’s strength and Adeleke’s popularity.

“These defections are not significant. They’re nothing more than a storm in a teacup,” he said in an interview on Wednesday. “If we’re talking about a real defection, look at what happened in Delta State, where the governor and the entire PDP structure moved to the APC. That’s a defection. What’s happening in Osun doesn’t threaten us in any way.”

He added that Governor Adeleke’s record of performance would speak for him in the next election.

“Adeleke is delivering on infrastructure and social programmes. People recognize his efforts, and they will reward him with another term in 2026,” Bisi said.
