The Governor of Niger state, Hon.Mohammed Umaru Bago has approved the appointment of Hon. Danjuma Abdul Masu as the pioneer Chairman of Niger State Sports Commission (NSSC).
Upgrading from Council to Commission and the appointment of Masu as pioneer Chairman is coming after years of unimpressive outing during national and international sporting fiestas, leading to the rise in clamour for the unbundling of the Niger State Sports Council, which before now has been part of Niger State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for performing below expectations.
A statement from the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman said the appointment is very strategic as it underscored the administration’s commitments towards revamping the sports sector with a view to making it more responsive to the needs and aspirations of sports lovers in Niger state.
The appointment of Masu, according to the statement aligns with the Bago led administration’s vision to harness the immense sports potentials in the state and position the state as a leading hub for sports excellence in Nigeria.
The statement expressing confidence that the pioneer Chairman, Masu possesses the requisite experience, passion, and leadership qualities needed to transform the Sports landscape of Niger state to enviable heights.
The new Chairman of the NSSC, the statement further emphasized represents another milestone in the present administration’s transformation agend as the administration remained committed towards creating enabling environment for Sports development.
The statement further stated that the appointment of Masu not only signal a new era for Sports in the state but reflects on the state Governor’s unwavering dedication to transformative governance targeted at the unemployed youths in particular.
Meanwhile, Niger state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has commended Governor Bago for appointing Danjuma Masu as the pioneer Chairman of NSSC, describing it as ‘well deserved’.
Statement signed by the Secretary, SWAN, Niger state, Chinwendu Nnadozie described the appointment of Masu who had been in the forefront promoting sports at local and state level as, ‘putting round pegs in round holes’.
