Been putting a fake smile for almost a year — Victor Boniface speaks out after season-ending injury

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has broken his silence after being ruled out for the rest of the season following knee surgery.

His club, Werder Bremen, confirmed on Friday that the Nigerian forward will miss the remainder of the campaign after undergoing a procedure recommended by a specialist in Austria.

Boniface had been battling the injury for months, but its severity was only recently confirmed, forcing him to go under the knife and end his season prematurely.

After the operation, the 24-year-old took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to share an emotional message about what he has been going through.

“Been putting a fake smile for almost a year, but God knows why all this is happening. Grateful to God,” Boniface wrote.

The post revealed the emotional toll the injury has taken on the striker, who has continued to play and appear positive publicly despite dealing with pain and uncertainty behind the scenes.

Boniface’s absence is a major blow for both Werder Bremen and the Super Eagles, with fans now hoping he makes a full recovery in time for the next season.
