President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport in Katsina at about 1:48 p.m. on Tuesday to attend the state burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He was received by a delegation of governors, ministers, National Assembly members, and other top government officials. The late president’s body was flown into Katsina aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft.

President Tinubu is expected to formally receive the remains before they are transported to Daura, Katsina State, for final burial rites. A brief military ceremony will be held at the airport, followed by Jana’iza (funeral prayer) and interment at Buhari’s residence in Daura.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, had earlier confirmed these arrangements during a Monday press briefing in Abuja. He also announced that condolence registers would be opened across all Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), Nigerian embassies and missions abroad, and at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

According to Idris, President Tinubu has constituted an Inter-Ministerial Committee—chaired by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume—to coordinate a dignified and well-organized burial in collaboration with the Katsina State Government and the Buhari family.

He further disclosed that 25 members of the Federal Executive Council have been directed to attend the burial rites and remain in Daura for the Third-Day prayers scheduled for Wednesday.

The Minister also noted that condolence messages have been pouring in from world leaders, reflecting Buhari’s global legacy and stature.
