Emir Of Zuru Dies At 81 In London Hospital

Mohammed Sani Sami, the Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, has died at the age of 81.

According to a statement released on Sunday by Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, the emir passed away on Saturday, August 16, at a hospital in London after a brief illness.

The statement, quoting the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Umar-Dutsinmari, noted that details of the burial arrangements will be announced in due course.

“The Kebbi State Government extends its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the Zuru Emirate Council, the people of Zuru, and the entire Kebbi populace,” the statement read, offering prayers for Allah’s forgiveness and for the late monarch to be granted Jannatul Firdaus.

Born in 1943, Mohammed Sani Sami had a notable military career. He joined the Nigerian Army on December 10, 1962, and was commissioned as an officer on July 25, 1963. He later served as the military governor of Bauchi State from January 1984 to August 1985 during the regime of the late General Muhammadu Buhari.

He became the Emir of Zuru in 1995 and remained on the throne until his passing.
