President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the winners of the by-elections held on Saturday, August 16, across 16 constituencies in 12 states, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victory in 12.
The announcement came through a statement issued on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to Onanuga, APC won in 12 constituencies, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won two, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured one, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) claimed one.
The president commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what he described as mostly peaceful and hitch-free elections. He also praised the newly appointed APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for leading the party to its first major win under his leadership.
“Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has shown leadership capacity and demonstrated what is achievable when popular candidates are fielded and party leaders work in unity,” Tinubu said.
He also extended his appreciation to APC governors, party leaders, and the electorate for their support:
“To all APC faithful and voters, thank you for the confidence you have placed in our party. Our ‘Renewed Hope’ mantra is not just a slogan. We are committed to building a better, more secure, and prosperous Nigeria—by the grace of God.”
President Tinubu also acknowledged all political parties and candidates who participated in the elections, urging them to continue promoting sportsmanship, fairness, and unity—values he described as essential to sustaining democracy.
