The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in collaboration with MTN Nigeria, has launched free WiFi services at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 2 and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The service was officially inaugurated on Thursday at MMIA Terminal 2 in Lagos by FAAN’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, who was represented by the Director of Airport Operations, Capt. Abdullahi Mahmood.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, and shared via the agency’s X handle.
According to the statement, the free WiFi service will be extended to the MMIA temporary terminal and other international airports across the country within the next three months.
Speaking at the event, Mahmood described the initiative as a major milestone for FAAN and a new benchmark for digital infrastructure and passenger experience at Nigerian airports. He noted that the partnership with MTN Nigeria highlights the importance of effective public-private collaboration in modernising infrastructure and strengthening the country’s digital economy.
He added that the project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and the ongoing transformation drive of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
Also speaking, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Lynda Saint-Nwafor, who represented the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola, assured passengers that the WiFi service would be reliable, secure and efficient. She commended FAAN’s management for its collaboration and foresight in ensuring the successful delivery of the project.
Meanwhile, FAAN recently reaffirmed its decision to ban cash transactions for all airport services nationwide, effective February 28, following visits by aviation union executives seeking clarification on the policy.
