NAFDAC Cracks Down on Expired Products, Seals Warehouses in Bida

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has sealed 18 warehouses in Bida, Niger State, following the discovery of expired food and beverage products valued at over ₦100 million.

In a statement shared on X on Thursday, the agency said the operation was carried out by its Investigation and Enforcement Directorate based on credible intelligence.

According to the statement, warehouse managers were arrested for interrogation, with preliminary findings linking the facilities to BY Ventures.

Further inspections at the company’s supermarkets in Minna reportedly uncovered more expired products as well as suspected counterfeit Goya cooking oil.

NAFDAC said the affected supermarkets have been sealed, while the company’s Managing Director has been invited for further investigation.

The agency highlighted the scale of the operation, noting that large quantities of expired food and beverage products worth over ₦100 million were recovered during the exercise.

NAFDAC also warned Nigerians about the health risks associated with consuming expired products, urging members of the public to always check expiry dates before making purchases and to report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health, stressing that it will continue monitoring markets and warehouses to ensure that only safe and quality products are available to Nigerians.
