The Nigerian gospel music community is mourning the loss of Taiwo Adegbodu, one half of the renowned Yoruba gospel duo Adegbodu Twins.
News of his passing was announced on Sunday, March 1, through an official statement shared on the group’s Facebook page by their management team. In the emotional post, the family described his sudden death as deeply painful and difficult to comprehend, expressing shock over the loss.
Fellow gospel singer Esther Igbekele also confirmed the news on Instagram, where she shared a photo of the late singer and paid tribute to him in Yoruba, honouring his life and contributions to gospel music.
Taiwo performed alongside his twin brother, Kehinde Adegbodu, and together they became widely known in the Yoruba gospel music scene following the release of their debut album Faratimi (Lean on Me) in 1999. The project propelled them into prominence and established their signature spiritually uplifting, culturally rich sound.
Over the years, the Adegbodu Twins built a strong following within Nigeria’s Christian music community, admired for their harmonies, inspirational lyrics and dedication to spreading the gospel through music.
Taiwo Adegbodu’s passing marks a significant loss to Yoruba gospel music, leaving behind a legacy of faith-filled songs that touched countless lives.
