Lagos Declares August 20 Public Holiday For Isese Day

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, a work-free day for all public servants in honour of the annual Isese Day celebration.

The announcement was made in an official circular signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, and issued on Monday, August 18, 2025. It was addressed to heads of ministries, agencies, local governments, and parastatals across the state.

the circular stated:

In reaffirming the state government’s commitment to promoting indigenous culture, tradition, and supporting traditional institutions, the Governor has approved a work-free day for public servants on August 20.

All government offices are expected to reopen on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 8:00 a.m.

Isese Day celebrates Yoruba spirituality, culture, and traditions, and has been officially recognized in Lagos as part of efforts to preserve heritage and promote cultural inclusivity.
