Melaye Declares PDP Dead, Says APC Now In Control

Dino Melaye

Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is “dead and buried,” claiming the opposition party is now being remotely controlled by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Melaye dismissed any chance of revival for the PDP, alleging that it no longer functions as an independent political entity.

Apart from our Lord Jesus Christ, no dead can rise again. PDP is dead and buried. The party was sold, and I’m not sure they even collected a receipt. What you have now is an APC-controlled PDP, he said.

Melaye, who previously ran for office under the PDP, accused unnamed APC agents of taking over the PDP’s decision-making, alleging influence from the Presidential Villa.

The party is now run from the villa. As far as we’re concerned, it is APC agents who are controlling the PDP, he added.

The former lawmaker also revealed he has left the PDP and is now a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — a party he believes has the potential to defeat President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 general elections.

I’m a proud member of the ADC, and by the grace of God, it is the party that will unseat Tinubu and send APC packing from the villa by May 29, 2027, he declared.

Shifting the conversation away from internal party politics, Melaye urged Nigerians to focus on the nation’s real problems.

There are pressing issues affecting Nigerians — hunger, malnutrition, bad governance, and poor leadership. These are the issues we should be discussing, not a dead party, he concluded.
