AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri confirmed on Monday that Croatian captain Luka Modric will join the club from Real Madrid following the conclusion of the Club World Cup.
Modric, who turns 40 in September, has been with Real Madrid since his move from Tottenham in 2012. Speculation about his departure began in early June after he announced plans to leave the Spanish club at the end of his contract.
Real Madrid are set to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, with the final scheduled for July 13.
“He’ll arrive in August,” Allegri said during his first press conference since returning to Milan. “He’s an extraordinary and important player. There’s no need to say more about him.”
Allegri is back at Milan after previously leading the club to a Serie A title in 2011 during his first tenure from 2010 to 2014. Milan’s new season kicks off with a Coppa Italia fixture on August 17.
