The Odengene Foundation has donated a multimillion-naira, 58 en-suite room hostel to Godfrey Okoye University, a Catholic institution located in Enugu State.
The new hostel, situated at the university’s permanent site in Ugwuomu, Emene Nike, was officially handed over during a ceremony on Friday. The event was attended by the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga.
Speaking at the handover, Captain Evarest Nnaji, founder of the Odengene Foundation, said the project was driven by a desire to quietly support education and uplift lives.
“I didn’t build this to be praised. My joy comes from giving back and making a difference,” Nnaji said, urging students to use the facility responsibly and focus on their academic goals.
He also announced plans for continued support, including scholarships and future projects through his foundation. “This isn’t a one-time gesture. We are committed to doing more to help students succeed,” he added.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Christian Anieke, who is also a Catholic priest, commended Nnaji’s generosity and its impact on students.
“Through this act of kindness, our students now believe in the power of giving. They’ll never forget that someone built them a hostel during their time here,” Anieke said.
Bishop Onaga blessed the building, praying that it would bring lasting joy to Nnaji and positively impact everyone who uses it. He described the donation as “a sacrifice worthy of emulation” and urged other wealthy individuals to invest in education.
The newly donated hostel is expected to alleviate accommodation challenges and improve the overall learning environment for students.
