TikTok’s much-loved Grandma Mary has died, her granddaughter Pyxie announced on Friday, January 2.
According to Pyxie, Grandma Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep on New Year’s Eve. Sharing the news with her 1.4 million followers on TikTok, she wrote, “How lucky we are to have experienced her and her love. She will always be with us.”
Grandma Mary became a cherished internet figure through Pyxie’s videos, where she was often seen doing simple everyday tasks, radiating warmth, gentle humour and a comforting smile. Her calm presence quickly endeared her to viewers around the world, many of whom affectionately described her as their “virtual grandmother.”
In 2025, Pyxie paused posting for several months, prompting concern from fans. She later returned in December to reassure them, explaining that her grandmother was alive but quieter. “What a beautiful thing it is to witness who she is, and who she helped me become,” she wrote at the time.
Born in Massachusetts in 1927 to Armenian parents who fled the Armenian genocide, Grandma Mary’s life spanned continents and generations. Her family arrived in the United States via Greece before she later returned to Armenia, where she married and started a family. She and her husband had two children before relocating back to the US in 1966, eventually settling in New Jersey, where they built a successful gas station business.
The last surviving sibling of five, Grandma Mary remained remarkably active well into old age and continued swimming in her family pool until she was 87.
She died at the age of 98, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, love and quiet joy that touched millions across social media.
