President Donald Trump has been formally nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, credited for his role in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

The nomination was submitted on Tuesday by U.S. Representative Buddy Carter (R-Ga.), who described Trump’s efforts as “extraordinary and historic” in helping to end the armed conflict between the two nations.

“President Trump’s influence was instrumental in forging a swift agreement that many believed to be impossible,” Carter wrote in a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

Carter, who has represented Georgia’s 1st Congressional District since 2015, also emphasized Trump’s broader Middle East policy, particularly his stance on Iran’s nuclear program.

“President Trump took bold, decisive actions to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions and ensure that the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism remains incapable of acquiring nuclear weapons,” he added.

The nomination comes as tensions in the Middle East continue, with recent images showing Iranian missiles launched over the West Bank and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu inspecting bomb-damaged sites, including the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Trump, who received multiple Nobel Peace Prize nominations during his presidency, was seen boarding Air Force One on Tuesday when news of the nomination broke. A garment bag marked “POTUS 45-47” has further fueled speculation about his 2024 presidential ambitions.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee does not comment on individual nominations. The winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize is expected to be announced in October.
