U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Iran to agree to a nuclear deal with the United States “before it’s too late,” following Israeli missile strikes on Iranian territory that targeted nuclear and military facilities.
The strikes, launched early Friday by the Israeli military, came after the breakdown of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks and a rare censure of Iran by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for not cooperating with inspections—the first such reprimand in over 20 years.
Loud explosions were reported in northeastern Tehran, prompting Iran to suspend all flights at Imam Khomeini International Airport. While Israeli officials claimed the attacks focused on military and nuclear infrastructure, online images showed extensive damage to residential areas, raising fears of civilian casualties.
Among those reportedly killed were three top Iranian commanders, including IRGC Chief Commander Hossein Salami, and six nuclear scientists.
Israel described the operation as a defensive response to Iran’s nuclear activities, which Tehran insists are solely for peaceful energy purposes.
Reacting to the incident on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he had repeatedly offered Iran opportunities to make a deal but was ignored. “I gave Iran chance after chance… but they just couldn’t get it done,” he wrote, adding that Iranian leaders underestimated the consequences. “They are all DEAD now, and it will only get worse!”
He warned that more attacks were likely unless Iran agrees to negotiate, urging, “Just do it, before it is too late.”
Despite the timing, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States was not involved in the Israeli strike. Trump also insisted he had urged Israel to hold off while diplomacy was still on the table.
In response, Iranian military officials vowed to retaliate. Spokesperson Abolfazl Shekarchi declared that both Israel and the U.S. would “pay a heavy price” for the attack.
